Kerens at Italy

7:30 p.m. Friday

At Willis Field

RECORDS:Class 1A Kerens is 5-4 and 3-1 in District 6-1A DI. Italy is 5-4 and 4-0.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:  Kerens: QB Nate Betts, WR/DB Brett Anderson, WR/DB Jeremy Gould, K/WR/LB Jovani Coronado. Italy: DL Zain Yers, WR Cody Boyd, C Kyle Fortenberry, OL Kevin Roldan.

UPDATE: The magic number for Kerens is 15 ... The Bobcats have to win the game by 15 or more points to have a chance to win the district title ... If they win by 15 and Cayuga wins there will be a three-way tie for first and the title will be decided by a coin flip ... If Kerens wins and Cayuga loses to Dallas Gateway then the Bobcats would win the title outright with one loss in the district to Cayuga and the head-to-head tiebreaker against Italy ... This is a game between two different styles .. Kerens is fast and athletic and Italy depends on its size and toughness and a defense that is tough to move the ball against ... The Gladitors can wrap up the title with a win, having already beaten Cayuga ...

Kerens is coming off a 41-8 win over Itasca ...Betts threw for four TDs and ran for another.

UPDATE: After coming off of a tough loss against neighboring rival Hubbard, Dawson will be looking for a strong performance against rested Wortham … both teams played their last game against Hubbard but neither were very successful … they combined to gain 100 total yards and lost 5 fumbles on a night where both offenses were basically nonexistent … the main threats for both teams, QB Witty Busby for Wortham and RB Dalton Long for Dawson, were shut down … whichever one of those players does the best will more than likely lead their team on to victory on Friday … both teams have had similar performances against their opponents ... the fact that neither team is going to the playoffs adds even more importance to the regular season finale, espespecially for Dawson, which is trying to break a three-year losing streak.
