Wortham’s Lady Bulldogs stayed alive in the Class 2A playoffs by beating Bosqueville 28-8, 25-20, 25-17 to win the Area round playoff game Thursday night and with the sweep to extend their incredible streak to 63 sets in a row.
The Lady Bulldogs advance to the Region Quarterfinals and play Bremond in Groesbeck either Monday or Tuesday.
The 10th-ranked Lady Bulldogs are making their 22nd consecutive appearance in the playoffs and are now 34-11.
They went 16-0 this season to win their sixth district title, and defeated Chilton with a sweep in the bi-district round of the playoffs.
Wortham came out strong the first set Thursday, dominating with an impressive offense. Bosqueville's defense picked up in the second set which some long rallies between the two Bulldog teams. Wortham continued to dominate with solid defense to get the sweep and stretch the set-streak to 63.
Leading the Lady Bulldogs in offense was Rylee Goolsby with 20 kills, four blocks, and three digs.
Samantha Wright had five kills and 11 digs. Skylar Phillips had five kills and nine digs.
Brynn Bowden led the Lady Bulldogs in serves with 27 total serves and 11 digs.
Setter Reagan Stuver had 25 assists, 13 digs, and one kill. Libero Megan Whaley had 17 digs, two assists, and an ace.
Jessica Black (2 blocks, 1 kill and 1 dig), Cate Samford (1 kill), Samantha Lee (1 kill and 1 ace) also had big games for Wortham.
