The Tigers took home third place at the Ennis Lions Allen Samuels Autoplex Tournament, Saturday, by shutting out Mansfield, 4-0.

The Tigers pitchers — starter Stayton Thomas, reliever Justise Contreras and reliever Michael Schmidt — combined to allow no runs on three hits. Thomas struck out five of the 10 batters he faced in the three innings pitched, while Contreras — who picked up the win — and Schmidt each struck out one.

Tigers infielder Caleb Marx was 2-for-4 with an RBI, two stolen bases and a run. Left fielder Aaron Bland hit the Tigers’ only double going 2-for-3 with a run.

Scoreless after three innings, the Tigers had one run in the third and scored three in the fourth inning. Corsicana had six hits and committed two errors.

The Tigers stay home for their second-district game against Lancaster, Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Dawson 7, Hubbard 4

The Dawson Bulldogs opened district play with a 7-4 win over the Hubbard Jaguars Saturday in Dawson.

Bulldogs starting pitcher Carson Nesmith had a rough first inning, walking four batters. With no mound visit by Dawson coach Brian Gaylor, the senior pitched out of a jam to get the victory on the mound, while teammate Bubba Medrano picked up the save. Nesmith finished with six strikeouts.

Hubbard’s Stephen Chapman pitched a complete game for the Jaguars, striking out five batters and leaving 10 Bulldog runners on base.

Medrano was the leading hitter for the Bulldogs (9-3, 1-0), as the junior went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Chapman — who went 4-for-4 — led the Jaguars.

In Dawson’s Friday game, the Bulldogs were edged out by Mart, 17-16, on the road. Medrano stole home to tie the game at 16 in the top of the seventh, but Mart would single in the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

Mildred 18, Meridian 1

The Mildred Eagles’ Cory Roper picked up the win at the Grandview Tournament Saturday.

The Eagles faced Meridian in the early game and defeated them, 18-1.

Mildred was led by senior Kirk Pritchett who went 4-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs. Bryan Thomas had a double in the Eagles’ 12 hits.
