UPDATE: Hubbard picked up its first win since 2009 last week with a 22-15 upset of Bosqueville which had thrashed the Jags by a 54-0 count last season … QB Cole Hill completed 13-of-20 passes for 124 yards, two scores and no interceptions … Johnson and McClinton combined for 12 catches for 112 yards … the young Hubbard defense which starts seven sophomores forced seven turnovers against Bosqueville … Scurry-Rosser hung a 31-0 loss on the Jags last season in the teams’ first matchup since 1997 … the Wildcats posted a 51-13 win over Cross Roads in 2011 season opener … Patton threw for 881 yards and 5 TDs while rushing for over 600 yards and five more scores last year as the Wildcats went 7-3 on the season … Scurry-Rosser returns 8 offensive and 9 defensive starters from a year ago.

UPDATE: Palmer is coming off a 41-0 win over Red Oak Life, Mildred a 42-7 win over Teague … the Eagles won last year’s meeting, 40-7, holding Palmer to 115 total yards … Wolfe had 181 combined yards and 3 TDs in last week’s win over Life … Palmer limited the Mustangs to 64 yards on 35 rushes … in last year’s meeting, Palmer’s lone TD drive came from 43 yards out and included three fourth-down conversions … Mildred was hardly crisp in the season opener and still won by five TDs … the Eagles forced six turnovers and turned two into TDs, including a 48-yard INT return by Logan Shelton … Jeremy Ballard had 2 INTs in the game … Shimonek had two TD passes and one on the ground in last season’s meeting … the Eagles received a vote in the AP poll this week.

UPDATE: Wortham lost to Blooming Grove last week 14-7 and Riesel lost to Sunnyvale 35-18 ... Wortham will try to break a two-game losing skid to the Indians ... Wortham had only 81 yards rushing and both TDs the Bulldog defense gave up were less than 40 yards ... Warren had a TD pass in the loss to Blooming Grove ... RB Chris McDaniel is out at least two weeks with an injury ... Scruggs had a blocked extra point and Hutson had a forced and recovered fumble against the Lions ...  Riesel uses the power running game to shorten the game, so it should be a battle of wills with the ball-control-oriented Wortham ... The Indians play in the same district as 2010 Class 1A state champion Mart, 2009 1A state champ Cayuga as well as Kerens and Rice.

UPDATE: Lakehill is in the second year of making the transition from 6-man football back to 11-man football ... Last Friday, Lakehill opened with a 28-20 win over Savoy ... Lakehill is a team that likes to line up and run the football at you ... Rabah rushed for 183 yards and 2 TDs on 14 carries in the opener ... Mitchell had 74 yards on 17 carries and Cris McCarty 53 more on 11 carries ... Labrie completed one pass for 50 yards ... Frost is trying to recover from a rough night in Krum ... RB Daniel Steel’s 95-yard kickoff return was the only bright spot offensively for the Polar Bears who look to get untracked against Lakehill ... Defensively, the Polar Bears will need for Jacob Stroder (12), Woody Woods (11) and Andrew Jackson (8) to come up big again Friday night.

UPDATE: Rio Vista and Blooming Grove both opened their respective seasons with wins under new head coaches. Rio Vista, under new skipper John Odell, defeated Rice 14-7 ... the Eagles took advantage of four Bulldog turnovers, two touchdowns called back due to penalties, and a pair of missed field goals ... both of Rio Vista’s TDs were set up by Rice fumbles in the fourth quarter which came 19 seconds apart …  Blooming Grove’s defense gave up a GoldenCircle-low 129 yards defensively as the Lions defeated Wortham 14-7 in their first game with coach Gary Grubbs at the helm ... the stingy Lions’ defense forced the Bulldogs to punt five times, allowing only 78 yards rushing and 51 passing … Chambers and fellow LB Ben Nicholson each had 8 tackles and Southard had an interception …  Kirby led the BG offense with 132 yards rushing on 20 carries, scoring two TDs on runs of 1 and 25 yards, respectively … the junior QB also averaged 35 yards a punt, including a long of 52.

UPDATE: Both the Bulldogs and Bobcats got 2011 off to a rough start in Week 0 … Kerens scored late to avoid being shut out in a 23-6 loss to Edgewood … Rayvon Faulk led all Bobcat rushers with 54 yards on 10 carries in the loss … Paul Williams hauled in the 17-yard scoring pass from Sayles to get Kerens on the board … Axtell blanked Dawson, 52-0, with big plays and turnovers … leading the Bulldogs' rushing attack was Dalton Long … Long carried 16 times for 58 yards in the loss … in 2010 Kerens overcame a pair of turnovers to down Dawson 27-12 in Kerens … the Bobcats racked up 303 rushing yards and 133 yards through the air in the victory.
