FAST FACT: Fairfield allowed zero yards passing and had three interceptions against Madisonville last Friday.

UPDATE: Fairfield lost its fifth game of the season Friday a 35-18 loss to Madisonville. In that game, the Eagles gave up 357 yards rushing. At one time in the first quarter Fairfield held a 10-7 lead and looked to capitalize on its first win, a Sept. 29 win over Crandall. But Madisonville, used its running game to beat the Eagles, scoring on runs of 49, 62, 40 and 14 ... Mexia is fresh off its first win of the season, a 63-48 win over Groesbeck, a team it has beat the last eight years. Dual-threat Kendrick Johnson scored seven touchdowns and rushed for 288 yards. Johnson also had two interceptions on defense. The Black Cats had 508 yards rushing in the game.

FAST FACT: Rice, through six games, has allowed opponents only 22 points in the fourth quarter, indicating a team that finishes games strong. The Bobcats two losses on the season are by an average of 2.5 points each and occurred in the last minute of the contests on deep passes.

UPDATE: The Bulldogs have a potent one-two punch with running backs Raymond Butler and Cody Aragon … Butler has 577 yards on 85 carries (6.79 yards per carry) and Aragon has carried the ball 60 times for 426 yards (7.10 yards per carry) … Rice quarterback Cody Cheek had an impressive outing against an undefeated Malakoff squad last week completing 10 out of 18 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns … Kerens is allowing 54 points in the fourth quarter to opponents while only scoring 35 in the stanza through seven games … the Bobcats are back to full strength for the remainder of the district title chase with the return of all-purpose back Derrick Polk, linebacker Sterling Cotton, and defensive back Justyn Brooks … the efficiency of senior quarterback Austin Bell continues to be the catalyst in the Bobcats offense as he leads the Golden Circle in rushing with 109 carries for 748 yards (106.86 yards per game) and passing with 1,251 yards and 15 touchdown tosses while only giving up one interception.

FAST FACT: The Blooming Grove passing game has averaged a solid 210 yards per game the last four weeks.

UPDATE: Blooming Grove lost last week to Kerens 28-14. In that game, Randy Barlow passed for 173 yards and two touchdowns, one to Andrew Hoffma and another to running back Andrew McGraw. Joe Coleman was on the receiving end of a couple Barlow passes and had 61 yards off them. The Lions held the high-powered Bobcats offense to 271 yards, not a lot considering Kerens averaged around 420 yards coming into the game ... Frankston defeated Italy 14-3 in its last game. Josh Fulton leads the Indians offense, in the Italy game, Fulton rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

FAST FACT: From 1990 to 2005, Italy compiled a 157-42 record and 15 playoff appearances, including every year since 1995. The Gladiators lost six games once, in 1994.

UPDATE: Mildred was idle last week, while Italy lost to Frankston, 14-3 ... Mildred beat Frankston, 47-28, two weeks ago ... Speed has rushed for 432 yards and two touchdowns ... FAST FACT: Before last week, the Bulldogs averaged 68 yards rushing per game. Against Dawson, Wortham had 287 yards on the ground.

UPDATE: As a team that usually runs a spread offense, the Bulldogs ran the ball effectively against Dawson. Wortham was led by Nathan Burks and his 26 carries for 152 yards. Wortham normally throws the ball about 26 times per game, against Dawson, it ran 54 times and threw 11 ... Chilton is the No. 5-ranked team in Class A, and it is coming off a 34-20 win against previously-ranked Normangee last Friday. Chilton has won five in a row, with their only loss coming to the No. 3-ranked team in Class 2A, Mart.

FAST FACT: Last year, Frost routed Covington at home 40-0.

UPDATE: Frost is coming off three straight losses where it has scored a combined three points and given up 156. Those losses were to the top three teams in the district, Bosqueville, Goldthwaite and Evant, teams with a combined record of 19-1 ... Last week Covington lost to district foe Valley Mills 40-14 In that game Covington running back Jeremy Spain ran 26 times for 92 yards and one touchdown in the loss. Spain’s rushing output was roughly half of Covington’s total yards (202) in the game. Covington wide receiver had Covington’s other touchdown.
