FAST FACT: Groesbeck coach Richey Cutrer was a senior strong safety on the 1982 Tigers team that went to the state championship.

UPDATE: Fairfield dropped its second game in a row last Friday losing to Mexia 35-18. In that game, the Eagles defense gave up 233 yards rushing to the Black Cats. Fairfield’s Gavan Bass had a solid game on the ground rushing 13 times for 131 yards. Bass also scored a touchdown in the third quarter to bring the Eagles within six points. In the last two games, Fairfield’s defense has given up an average of 74.5 yards passing ... Goats quarterback Cody Wilson went 18-of-48 for 250 yards and two touchdowns in Groesbeck’s last game, a 46-14 loss to Palestine. Two weeks ago, Wilson threw for 465 yards against Mexia. In seven games, Wilson has thrown for over 1,900 yards ... On Sept. 15, Groesbeck defeated Mart, the No.2-ranked team in Class 2A.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Frankston: QB Josh Fulton, WR Luke Foster, RB Marcel Ingram. Rice: QB Cody Cheek, RB Raymond Butler, TE Cullen Torres.

FAST FACT: Rice’s Raymond Butler averages 96.3 rushing yards per game, fourth-best in the Golden Circle.

UPDATE: Since a 27-0 shutout of Cross Roads on Sept. 15, the Bulldogs have dropped four straight, including last Friday’s 48-0 loss to Kerens. In that game Butler stayed right around his average as he rushed 19 times for 97 yards. Rice also turned he ball over three times and the Bobcats only had to punt once ... Frankston defeated Blooming Grove 42-7 in its last game. The Indians had 383 yards of offense led by running back Marcel Ingram, who had 127 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Frankston held the Lions to minus-10 yards on the ground.

FAST FACT: The Dawson Bulldogs are two points shy of having scored twice as many points in their last two games (40 points) as in their first five (21 points).

UPDATE: Last Friday night, the Bulldogs traded blows with Highway 31 rival Hubbard through the first portion of the contest, knotting the game up at 14 before being run over the opponent's ground game ... quarterback Zack Edwards threw for 104 yards, including two touchdown passes ... Bubba Medrano and Carson Nesmith were on the receiving end of Dawson's only two scores in the game ... in 2006, the Bulldog offense has spread the ball around to 13 different receivers in its passing game ... the Dawson ground game has yet to find its niche, averaging only 45.2 yards per outing ... the Bremond Tigers hope to continue their two-game winning streak ... last week the Tigers crushed Axtell 42-7 ... the Tigers have scored more than 40 points in each of their three victories this season, all of which have come in District 25-1A competition.

FAST FACT: Last week against Covington, Frost rushed for 353 yards.

UPDATE: It’s been feast or famine for Frost so far this season and the trend continued last Friday for the Polar Bears as they dominated Covington 34-6. In Frost’s last six games, it has gone 3-3. In three losses the Polars Bears have been outscored 156-3. In three wins, Frost outscored opponents 70-12. ... Valley Mills had last week off, following an Oct. 13 victory over Covington, 40-14. The Eagles only two losses this year came at the hands of Granger (32-29) and Bosqueville (49-21). Both games were on the road.

FAST FACT: With Chilton ranked No. 5, this is the highest-ranked team Hubbard will face this season.

UPDATE: Hubbard is coming off a 47-14 district win over Dawson ... the Jaguars amassed 385 rushing yards on Dawson to lead all area teams in Week 7 ... QB Chapman ran for 164 yards and a touchdown while passing for 73 yards and another touchdown... Sellers, Hubbard and Huff rank among the Top 20 rushing leaders in the area ... the Jaguars rank fourth in points allowed, averaging 27.0 yards each week ... UPDATE: Mildred is coming off a 56-14 win over Italy, Blooming Grove a 42-7 loss to Frankston ... the Eagles boast the area’s No. 1 scoring offense (34.0 ppg.) and rushing team (270.6 ypg.) ... Kevin Barlow (77-747, 9 TDs) and Donald Knight (92-708, 6 TDs) rank Nos. 2 and 3 individually ... the Eagles won last year’s meeting, 63-8 ... the Lions boast the third best passing team (173.5 ypg.) but have only 705 yards overall in rushing ...
