Matt Anderson is glad he had Jacob Jones, Tuesday.

Jones, a senior, went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Blooming Grove’s 6-2 win over Italy, on the road. Through six district games, Jones is batting .333 with nine RBI. The Lions are 4-2 in District 20-2A.

Blooming Grove had six hits against the Gladiators (0-5 in 20-2A).

“We just kind of walked through the game,” Anderson said. “Offensively, we didn’t do the things we set out to do.”

While most of the team struggled, Jones increased his season batting average to .367 and his RBI total to 15. Austin Melton went 2-for-4 for the Lions.

Anderson said Jones has made a “total 180” from last season. Last year, Anderson said Jones would get down on himself when he struggled at the plate.

“He’s turned into a leader, he’s done everything I’ve asked of him,” Anderson said. “He’s the guy I know I can count on.”

Scott Ackley picked up the win, pitching “a heck of a game” according to Anderson.
