The Dawson Lady Bulldogs made a furious fourth quarter rally but came up just short as the Milford Lady Bulldogs escaped with a 38-36 win to claim seventh place in the 2019 Kiwanis Classic Saturday morning at Navarro College.
Dawson, down 32-17 heading into the fourth quarter, exploded on offense in the quarter, outscoring Milford 19-4 to tie the game, 36-36, on a basket by Casey Springer with 25 seconds remaining. Unfortunately for Dawson, Milford’s Markia Houston scored on a lay-up with just 10 seconds remaining to retake the lead, 38-36. Dawson had three chances to tie in final seconds, but none of the shots would fall.
Brooke Martinez led the way for Dawson, scoring 10 points, and Nyah Barron added 8 points. Both Springer and Cheyanne Praytor scored 7 points, while both Hannah Nesmith and Monica Saldana had 2 points to close out the scoring for Dawson.
