Navarro College announced its first inductees for the Bulldog Hall of Fame Friday July 12, in the Bulldog Board Room of the Walker Dining Hall.
Since the first classes opened for students in September of 1946, the various athletic programs of Navarro have played an important role in defining the college's history. Dr. Kevin Fegan, Navarro College District President and Michael Landers, Navarro College Athletic Director, spoke to the assembled room, recognizing the contributions of these inductees as "Seventy-three years in the making."
The inaugural inductees for 2019 are: athletic director and golf coach Roark Montgomery, basketball coach Lewis Orr, baseball coach Arthur “Skip” Johnson, baseball coach Randall “Whoa” Dill, football coach Bob McElroy, tennis coach Herschel Stephens, cheer coach Monica Aldama, baseball player Brian Cole, golfer James David Stubbs, and loyal past employee and fan Brenda Duncan.
Dr. Fegan noted the importance that athletics can play in the success of an institution, with so much of that time focused on the team. With the Bulldog Hall of Fame, the focus can now highlight the individual, representing all that's good about Navarro.
To be considered for induction in the Bulldog Hall of Fame, a nominee must be an active intercollegiate athlete for one year, a coach for five years, or an active supporter of Navarro College athletics for ten years.
Candidates are considered based on their service to Navarro College and the athletics program, their personal achievements, personal integrity, and service to the community. Any current or former student, employee, or member of the public is eligible for nomination.
An induction ceremony honoring these inductees will be held during a luncheon on Saturday, September 28 at the Cook Education Center. Each of the honorees will receive a "Bulldog Red" blazer and plaque to commemorate their induction and will be introduced during halftime of Navarro College's football game at Tiger Stadium on the same night.
Additionally, a special Hall of Fame room will be established on the Corsicana campus where all inductee members will be commemorated.
Tickets for the induction ceremony will be made available on the Navarro College website and social media sites.
