Demi Dotson hangs on for a tough catch as she collides with Haley Brown on Wednesday at Corsicana High School.

With Betsy Woodall and  Red Oak's Marly Dickert locked in a pitcher's duel through 11 innings, Wednesday's game turned into a classic case of who would blink first.

Even then it took a full 12 frames and two unearned runs for the Lady Tigers to drop their first home district game of the season 2-1 to Red Oak.

"We came down here with the knowledge that Corsicana was going to be a tough team," Red Oak coach Tatum Thorn said. "Our girls were serious, they were intense and it showed."

The Lady Hawks' winning run came in a flurry of hits as Jaimi Munoz singled in Laura Tamez, who led off the inning with a single before Morgan Dufour reached on an error.

Woodall lasted 11 and 1/3 innings, tossing 122 pitches. She gave up 11 hits but stranded nine Lady Hawks on base while striking out eight.

Dickert weaved around Corsicana's (17-8, 5-1) usually potent lineup with ease, giving up just five hits and striking out seven. She allowed just three baserunners after the fourth inning.

"We just didn't put the ball in play. It all goes back to (that)," Lady Tigers coach Elizabeth Collier said. "Once you leave the field, it's all left there. It's over, you can't change it and you move forward."

Munoz finished the game 4 for 5 at the top of the Lady Hawks' lineup and Kyla Burke went 2 for 4. The Lady Tigers were held without an extra-base hit or a hitter with more than one hit.

The Lady Tigers got on the board first when Demi Dotson walked, Katie Cook was hit by a pitch and Dotson came around to score when a Sidney Kirk bunt ended up in the first base dugout on a throwing error.

But the Lady Hawks would get it back two innings later when Kat Callier's bunt resulted in a throwing error, sending her to third base and home on Morgan Dufour's one-out RBI single.

The Lady Tigers travel to Terrell on Friday. First pitch is at 3 p.m.

"One loss is not going to keep us out of the playoffs," Collier said. "We've put ourselves in a fortunate situation, and we have to bounce back. It's all about where we go from here."
