Tigers linebacker Tyler Farmer (42) seen here bringing down North Forney’s Jacob Soto with one hand, had a monster season as a junior and returns to lead Corsicana’s defense. Texas Football magazine chose Farmer as its preseason Defensive Player of the Year in District 8-5A Division II. The magazine picked the Tigers to finish second behind Ennis in the district.

High school football season might not be here just yet, but the starting flag (gentlemen start your engines) was waved this week with the latest issue of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, the grand daddy of all college and high school preseason magazines in the nation..

The magazine not only previews Texas’ two NFL teams and all of the college teams in Texas, but previews more than 1,400 high school teams, and predicts every high school district race in the state.

It’s the first look ahead to a high school season that begins with preseason practice for the smaller schools on Aug. 5 and for Corsicana’s Tigers and all schools that held spring practice with the first day of workouts scheduled for Aug. 12.

The season opens for the Tigers on Aug. 30 in Burleson against Centennial, the team that beat them in the playoffs a year ago.

Texas Football’s district predictions have the defending district champion Tigers listed as the No. 2 team in District 8-5A right behind rival Ennis.

The Tigers will play Ennis at Tiger Stadium in their final game of the regular season.

The magazine also listed in its preseason predictions the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year in each district and Corsicana senior linebacker Tyler Farmer, who had a monster season as a junior, was chosen as the District 8-5A preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
