The Tigers finished in fifth place in District 16-4A last season. That’s the same spot the 2009 issue of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football forecasts the Tigers to finish — the second consecutive year Corsicana has been picked to miss the playoffs by the magazine.

The 50th edition of Texas Football hit newsstands over the weekend —it was officially available Monday.

The Tigers are picked behind Waco Midway, Ennis, Waxahachie and Waco.

Kerens is the pick in District 14-2A, with Mildred tabbed to come in third behind Edgewood and make the playoffs. Blooming Grove was picked fourth in 14-2A and Rice seventh.

Kerens quarterback Pat Faulk is the preseason Offensive MVP for 14-2A and Mildred safety Thomas McDonald is the Defensive MVP.

Dawson is picked to win 21-1A ahead of Itasca and Italy for the three playoffs teams out of the district. Wortham, Hubbard and Frost are selected in that order after Axtell.

Navarro is picked to repeat as regular season champions of the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.

Corsicana’s Jay Finley of Baylor made second-team running back on the magazine’s All-Texas College Team.
