The Tigers tennis team conclude their postseason with a seventh place finish at the Region II Team Tennis Tournament in Grapevine Saturday.

After starting the tournament with a 10-0 shutout win against Dallas Adamson, the Tigers were unable to get past Richardson Pearce, falling 10-2 in the quarterfinal round.

“I thought overall we had a great effort, and I am proud of our players for that,” Tigers coach Jason White said. “It was a bit misfortunate with the draw we had, having to play Pearce in the second round, but that is the way tournaments work.”

The Tigers’ (19-6 District 16-4A) two wins against eventual runner-up Pearce came in doubles as Dalia Flores and Cindy Vaquera won their girl’s doubles match 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 while the team of Cesar Ramirez and Haden Davis won in boy’s doubles 6-4, 6-3.

After a 10-7 loss to Texas High in the following round, the Tigers rebounded with a 10-6 victory over Lindale.

Katelyn Nease, Tessa McCain, Andrew Leskoven, Robert Cho, Joey Motley and Ramirez all came away with wins in their singles matches against Lindale.

Highland Park took first place in the tournament to advance to the state tournament.

“We are probably in the toughest region there is with respect to tennis,” White said. “After Highland Park and Pearce there are six other teams that could beat each other on any given day.

“Unfortunately we just came up a little short. Our kids have worked hard this season, and I am very proud of them. I am sure that they are looking forward to a little time off and then getting ready for our individual season.”
