Corsicana’s Under-8 Tigers baseball team took home second place in the District Tournament in Mabank last week to earn a berth in the state tournament this weekend in Athens.

The Tigers lost their opening game to Canton, but rebounded and came back through the loser’s bracket to beat host Mabank to stay alive, and then kept winning, beating Athens and Palestine to advance to the championship game.

The beat Canton 4-3, but had to win twice to claim the district title, and lost to Canton in the second game.

Still, the second place finish sends the Tigers to Athens to play in the state tournament.

The Tigers are coached by head coach Andy Williams and assistant coaches Chad Barron, Matt McGinnis and Justin Macias.
